Pennsylvania Drivers License Address Change Information

Keeping your most up to date address in PA is a smart and safe thing to do. You'll always be notified of any changes or upcoming renewals, and in emergency situations, it's always good to display your current address. Let's cover your three options for performing the update:

In Person

Steps

  1. If your expiration date falls within the next six (6) months, please follow the PA drivers license renewal instructions to get a new updated license. 
  2. If your license is not expiring, you'll need to download and complete a Dl-901 Address Change application.
    • The form will ask you to provide your driver's license number, new address (PO Box is allowed but it cannot be used for both residence and mailing address), birth date, phone number and email address.
  3. Visit any photo center office in Pennsylvania. 
  4. As seen in the latest fees page, there is no cost to update your address. 

By Mail

Steps

  1. If your expiration date falls within the next six (6) months, please follow the PA drivers license renewal instructions to get a new updated license. 
  2. If your license is not expiring, you'll need to download and complete a Dl-901 Address Change application.

  3. There is no cost to have your drivers license address updated in PA.

Out of State Address Changes

PennDOT will only allow changes to out of state residents if you are one of the following:

  • If you are currently in the U.S. Military living out of state. Or if you are a dependent of a military driver.
  • If you are an employee of the U.S. government and are living out of state. Or if you are a family member of a government employee.

Steps for Out of State

  1. Complete Steps 1 and 2 from the by mail section.
  2. Make sure to check the section in the application that asks what type of out of state work you fall under. 
  3. If you are a government employee, you must include a letter (in company letterhead) that states your current work, or include a copy of your work photo ID. If you are in the military, attach a copy of your Military ID. 

Online

  1. Just visit the following PennDOT online address change page to get started. There is no cost to use this service.
  2. You will need to begin the process by entering your drivers license number, birth date, and last digits of your Social Security Number.

Cost for Pennsylvania Drivers License Address Change
