Nebraska Drivers License Information

To get your drivers license in Nebraska, you need to apply for an Operator's Class O drivers license. You must have a Nebraska license within thirty (30) days of establishing residency. You must carry your license at all times. 

Nebraska Drivers License Requirements

18 years and under 

  • Operator's Class O Drivers License

    • You must be at least 17 years old.
    • Must have held a Provisional Operator's Permit  (POP) (see below) for at least twelve (12) months.

  • Provisional Operator's Permit (POP)

    • You must be at least 16 years old.
    • Must have held a Learner's Permit (LPE, or SCP or LPD) (see below) for at least six (6) months.
    • Must have driver safety course (nebraska drivers ed) (see below).
    • Must have 50 hours of supervised driving.
    • Must always be supervised.

  • Learner's Permit (Type LPD)

    • You must be at least 15 years old.
    • Must always be supervised.

  • Learner's Permit (Type LPE)

    • You must be at least 14 years old.
    • Must always be supervised.

  • School Permit (Type SCP)

    • You must be at least 14 years of age and two (2) months.
    • Must live close to school (restrictions apply)
    • Must have driver safety course (nebraska drivers ed) (see below).
    • Must have held a Learner's Permit (LPE or LPD) for at least two (2) months.
