Maryland Drivers License Information

To get your drivers license in Maryland, you need to apply for a noncommercial Class C drivers license. You must have your Maryland license with you at all times.

Maryland Drivers License Requirements

18 years and under (Rookie Driver/Graduated Licensing System)

  • Type 1 Learner’s Instructional Permit

    • A few of the requirements:
      • You must be at least 15 years and 9 months old.
      • Parent or Legal Guardian signature.
      • If under 16, must have School Attendance form.
      • Sixty (60) hours of driving experience which shall include ten (10) hours of night driving.

  • Type 2 Learner’s Instructional Permit

    • A few of the requirements:
      • You must be at least 16 years and 6 months old.
      • You must hold this Permit for at least fourteen (14) days.

  • Provisional License

    • A few of the requirements:
      • You must be at least 16 years and 6 months old.
      • Must have maryland drivers ed.

  • Driver's License

    • You must be at least 18 years old.
    • You must have had a Maryland Provisional License (see above) for at least eighteen (18) months.

18 years and over

  • Regular Class C Drivers License

    • You must have had a Maryland Provisional License (see above) for at least eighteen (18) months.
    • Take and pass the Vision, Knowledge and Driving Skills Tests.
