North Dakota Drivers License Information

To get your drivers license in North Dakota, you need to apply for a Class D operator's drivers license. You must have a North Dakota license within sixty (60) days of establishing residency. You must carry your license at all times. 

North Dakota Drivers License Requirements

18 years and under 

  • Instruction Permit

    • You must be at least 14 years old.

    • Must have supervising driver who is at least 18 years old and three (3) years experience.

    • Must have parental or legal guardian approval.

    • Drivers of age 14 and 15 must hold this permit for at least twelve (12) months or until the driver turns 16.

    • Drivers of age 16 and 17 must hold this permit for at least six (6) months or until the driver turns 18.
