To get your drivers license in Rhode Island, you need to apply for a noncommercial / operator's drivers license. You must have your Rhode Island license with you at all times.

Rhode Island Drivers License Requirements

18 years and under (Graduated Licensing System)

  • Limited Instructional Permit

    • A few of the requirements:
      • You must be between 16 and 18 years of age.
      • Must have rhode island drivers ed.
      • Parent or Legal Guardian signature.

  • Limited Provisional License

    • A few of the requirements:
      • You must have had a Rhode Island Limited Instructional Permit (see above) for at least six (6) months.
      • Fifty (50) hours of driving experience which shall include ten (10) hours of night driving.
