How to Renew Your Alaska Drivers License

You can renew your Alaska Driver's license by using these methods
If you are over 21 you can only renew the license up to 1 year prior to expiration.
There is no grace period. In other words your license will not be legal after it expires!

By Mail

Some people are eligible to renew by mail. You must meet certain qualifications. Some of these qualifications are as follows

  • You must be between the ages of 22 and 68
  • You must have previously renewed your license in person
  • Your Alaska Drivers License must be active. In other words, it cannot be suspended for instance.

Extension

You may mail or fax an extension letter if you are out of state and your Alaska Drivers License has expired.

In Person

  1. Show up in person to a local alaska dmv office.
  2. You must give up your current Alaska License
  3. Complete an application
  4. Take the Vision Test
  5. Pay the fee (SEE BELOW)
