New Mexico Drivers License Requirements

18 years and under (Graduated Driver Licensing - GDL)

  • Stage 1: Instructional Permit (Learner's Permit)

  • Stage 2: Provisional License

    • You must be 15 and 1/2 years of age.
    • You must have completed Stage 1 (see above).
    • Must always drive with an adult over 21 years of age.
    • Must hold the provisional license for at least twelve (12) months.

  • Stage 3: Full License

    • Must not have any violations in the previous ninety (90) days.
