Alabama Drivers License Information

To get your drivers license in Alabama, you need to apply for a Class D license.

Alabama Drivers License Requirements

18 years and under

  • Class D

    • You must be at least 16 years old.
  • Class D Learner License 

    • This is the first step in the GDL program. You must be at least 15 years of age.

18 years and over

  • Class D

Alabama Drivers Ed

If you are under 18 you must complete or practice 30 hours of behind-the-wheel driving. Your other option is to complete an Alabama State Department of Education (SDE) course.
