Texas Drivers License Address Change Information

All new addresses must be updated with the DPS within thirty (30) days of acquiring your new address. If your license is expiring with the next 30 days, you can wait to process your renewal and update your address at the same time. 

Online

Steps

  • Online address changes are not allowed for Class A or Class B commercial and non commercial licenses.
  • You must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Please make sure that your license is current. It must not be expired.
  • You must be older than eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Suspended driver licenses or licenses with unpaid (outstanding) tickets and warrants are not permitted.
  • Have your current ID card or drivers license handy because you will be asked for the number.
  • The expiration date on your drivers license will not change after the new address update.
  • You may optionally give money to donation programs such as the Blindness Education, Screening, Treatment (BEST) program and the Glenda Dawson-Donate Life Texas Registry.
  • You may optionally Register To Vote in Texas.
  • Pay the COST of $11.00 with any of the following cards – Visa, Discover Card, Master Card, American Express.
  • Have your Social Security Number. You will be asked for the last four (4) digits.
  • You will need to have access to a printer in which to print the receipt and the temporary drivers license. This temporary license will only be valid for sixty (60) days.

If you meet all the above conditions, you can visit the Change of Address page to begin your online Texas license or ID card address update. A printer is required to print your temporary drivers license which will be valid for sixty (60) days.

You will receive your license or ID card in the mail in less than three (3) weeks.

Note: The law in Texas states you can only have ONE drivers license. Please destroy your old license.

In Person

Steps

  1. Locate and visit any driver license office.
  2. Download the Application for Change of Address DL-64 form.
  3. Or alternatively, you can pick up the Change of Address DL-64 form from a place such as a Texas Post Office, or any DPS driver license office

  4. Be prepared to pay for the $11.00 COST for the address change.

By Contacting the Texas DPS

Steps

  1. You can have the Change of Address form sent via mail to your current address by completing these steps:
    1. Visit the Texas DPS Customer Service Page.
    2. Be sure to add your Complete Name, Drivers License or ID card Number, and Mailing Address for form to be sent.
  2. Be prepared to include payment for $11.00 to cover the COST of the address change.
  3. Cash is not accepted. Only Checks or Money Order.
  4. Please make payment to Texas Department of Public Safety and mail payment to:

You will receive your license or ID card in the mail in less than three (3) weeks.

Note: The law in Texas states you can only have ONE drivers license. Please destroy your old license.

Have NOT received my New Drivers License

If it’s been over 3 weeks and you still haven’t received your new or updated drivers license via mail, you need to contact the DPS. You can do so, by using any of the following methods:

  • Visiting the Texas Where’s My License or ID webpage. You’ll need to input your License number or ID number, and Date of Birth.
  • By Calling the DPS, from 7am to 6pm Monday through Friday, at any of the following numbers:
