In the state of Georgia how old do you have to be to get a learners permit

You must be a minimum of fifteen (15) years of age to get your learners permit in the state of Georgia. You specifically need to apply for a Class C Instructional Permit. Let’s go over this topic in further detail.

Georgia has four (4) classes of driver licenses. The first one is the Class C Instructional Permit. You need to be a least 15 years of age. After you’ve held this permit for at least 1 year and you are at least 16 years of age, you can apply for a Class D Provisional License. If you are above seventeen (17) and you hold a valid license from another state you can apply directly for a Class C 17 years of age drivers license. Finally, if you are above eighteen (18) years you can apply directly for a regular Class C Drivers license.

There are quite a few rules and prerequisites that need to be completed before applying for your Learner’s Permit. For instance, you must have your parents or guardian sign the driver license application. Your parents must also show a Georgia drivers license. If not, you must show a Proof of residency document . Please remember that you cannot hold multiple learner permits inside the U.S. . If you come from another state and previously hold a permit , you must give up that permit.

Finally, please remember that you must be enrolled in school in order to get any type of driver license or learner’s permit in Georgia. For instance, you cannot have more than ten (10) unexcused absences or drop out of school and not graduate. You cannot be involved in drugs, weapons, or aggressive behavior in school. The Georgia Department of Driver Services will suspend your license!

You must show proof that you are enrolled in school. This is done by filling out the form called Georgia DDS Certificate of Attendance. You can download the form here
